Dubielewicz earns weekly honor

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … The American Hockey League announced today that Bridgeport Sound Tigers goaltender Wade Dubielewicz has been named the CCM Vector/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending January 1, 2006. In three games last week, Dubielewicz went a perfect 3-0-0, stopping 86 of 87 shots and posting two shutouts.

On Wednesday night (Dec. 28), Dubielewicz turned aside all 36 shots he faced as Bridgeport posted a 4-0 win over visiting Springfield. Friday (Dec. 30) in Philadelphia, he stopped 26 shots in a 4-1 win over the Phantoms. And on New Year’s Eve, Dubielewicz came back with 24 saves for his third shutout of the year, leading the Sound Tigers to a 6-0 win over Lowell. All told, Dubielewicz, who was recalled by the parent New York Islanders on Jan. 2, has stopped 156 of 160 shots in his last five games, coinciding with Bridgeport’s current 4-0-0-1 streak.

In recognition of his achievement, Dubielewicz will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Sound Tigers home game.

The 26-year-old Dubielewicz has a record of 8-13-1 in 23 appearances for the Sound Tigers this season. A native of Kerrobert, Sask., Dubielewicz was the winner of the Dudley “Red” Garrett Award as the AHL’s outstanding rookie in 2003-04, when he shattered league records with his 1.38 goals-against average and .946 save percentage.
