Ducks reclaim Kunitz off waivers

The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim announced today that the club has claimed left wing Chris Kunitz on waivers from Atlanta.

Kunitz, 26, was claimed by Atlanta on waivers on Oct. 4, after spending the entire 2005 training camp in Anaheim. In two games with the Thrashers this regular season, Kunitz was scoreless with two penalty minutes.

Kunitz appeared in 54 games with Cincinnati of the AHL last season, recording 22 goals and 17 assists for 39 points. The 6-foot, 200-pound native of Regina, Sask., played in the AHL All-Star Classic as a rookie in 2004, during a season in which he appeared in 59 games and registered 44 points (19g, 25a).

Kunitz played in 21 NHL games with Anaheim during the 2003-04 season, registering six assists. He played four seasons at Ferris State University and signed with the Mighty Ducks as a free agent on April 1, 2003.

He will report immediately to Portland (AHL), Anaheim’s primary development affiliate.
