Ducks sign veteran forward Gavey

The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, parent club of the AHL’s Portland Pirates, announced Monday that the club has agreed to terms on a one-year contract with center Aaron Gavey.

Gavey, 31, spent the 2004-05 season in the AHL, recording five goals and 14 assists in 60 games with Utah. In 213 career AHL matches, Gavey has picked up 45 goals and 91 assists for 136 points.

During the 2003-04 season, Gavey registered 22 goals and 45 assists for 67 points in 75 AHL games, leading the St. John’s Maple Leafs in scoring.

A native of Sudbury, Ont., Gavey has appeared in 355 career NHL games with Toronto, Minnesota, Dallas, Calgary and Tampa Bay, posting 91 points (41g, 50a) with 270 penalty minutes.

The 6-foot-2, 189-pound forward was originally drafted by Tampa Bay in the fourth round (74th overall) of the 1992 NHL Entry Draft.
