The Carolina Hurricanes announced that they have named Patrick Dwyer as an assistant coach with the Charlotte Checkers.
Dwyer will work with new Checkers head coach Ryan Warsofsky, who was elevated from assistant coach on July 10.
A former player with both the Hurricanes (2008-15) and Checkers (2016-17), Dwyer enters his first season as a full-time coach, having spent the 2018-19 campaign as a player/assistant coach with the Belfast Giants of the Elite Ice Hockey League.
Dwyer, 36, played 14 professional seasons and appeared in 416 NHL games, all with Carolina. He also skated in 354 AHL games with Chicago, Albany and Charlotte, totaling 94 goals and 102 assists for 196 points.
