Enroth shines as Pirates edge Pens

Goaltender Jhonas Enroth stopped 35 of 36 shots in net as Portland edged visiting Wilkes-Barre/Scranton by a 2-1 count on Tuesday.

The Pirates extended their points streak to 13 games (12-0-0-1) and moved into a tie with Worcester for first place in the Atlantic Division at 74 points apiece. Portland visits the Sharks on Wednesday night.

Portland also matched a franchise record with its eighth consecutive victory at the Cumberland County Civic Center.

After a scoreless first period, Matt Caruana gave Portland a 1-0 lead 5:33 into the second frame with his third goal of the season. Rookie Tyler Ennis and two-time AHL All-Star Mark Mancari earned assists.

Mancari then tallied a power play goal at 1:48 of the third period to make it a 2-0 lead for the Pirates. His marker proved decisive when Penguins forward Dustin Jeffrey put his team on the board with an unassisted tally at 6:16.

Enroth held the fort the rest of the way, stopping 16 of 17 shots by the Penguins in the third period alone, and improved to 26-14-1 for the season.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton saw its season-high six-game winning streak come to an end.
