Falcons, Bears make swap

The Edmonton Oilers, parent club of the AHL’s Springfield Falcons, have reassigned defenseman Danny Syvret from Springfield to the Hershey Bears. In exchange, the Bears have loaned center Grant Potulny to the Falcons.

In 36 games with the Falcons this season, Syvret totaled one goal and seven assists for eight points and 14 penalty minutes. The 5-foot-11, 203-pound native of Millgrove, Ont., also spent time with Team Canada and won a gold medal at this year’s Spengler Cup.

A third-round draft choice by Edmonton in 2005, Syvret has five goals and 43 assists for 48 points in 155 career AHL games with Springfield, Grand Rapids and Hamilton. He has also played in a total of 26 career NHL games with the Oilers, registering one assist and 12 penalty minutes.

Potulny has played in 50 games with Hershey this season collecting 19 goals and 12 assists for 31 points and 71 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-3, 204-pound native of Grand Forks, N.D., is in his fourth pro season after spending his collegiate career with the University of Minnesota.

Originally drafted by Ottawa in the fifth round (157th overall) in the 2000, Potulny has totaled 56 goals and 52 assists for 108 points in 228 career AHL games with Hershey and Binghamton.
