Flames recall Irving

The Calgary Flames announced today that goaltender Leland Irving has been recalled from the Abbotsford Heat (AHL).

Flames goaltender Henrik Karlsson has been placed on the injured reserve list due to a sprained MCL in his right knee suffered in last night’s game against the Vancouver Canucks. He will be evaluated and a further update provided when available.

His 23 games played, 15 wins and three shutouts lead the AHL. Irving was named Reebok/AHL Player of the Week for the week ending Nov. 20.

In 61 games last season with Abbotsford he earned 30 wins which ranked second in the AHL, his eight shutouts led the league and his .913 save percentage was 10th among AHL goalies. Irving was also named the Abbotsford Heat team MVP for the 2010-11 season.
