Flames score 10 goals in blanking of Syracuse

The Adirondack Flames scored 10 unanswered goals on Tuesday night to topple the Eastern Conference-leading Syracuse Crunch, 10-0, at home at the Glens Falls Civic Center.

The 10 goals sets a 2014-15 American Hockey League season high, as well as marks a franchise-high for the Flames. Left wing Sven Baertschi recorded the first hat trick in his professional career to help guide the Flames to the win, while Turner Elson added two goals, and Kenny Agostino (1G-2A), Mark Cundari (1G-2A), Markus Granlund (1G-1A), Ben Hanowski (2A), Garnet Hathaway (3A), Brian McGrattan (2A), and Tyler Wotherspoon (2A) all posted multiple-point efforts. In all, 13 Adirondack skaters registered a point, and all but four skaters recorded at least one shot on goal.

Goaltender Joni Ortio stopped all 29 Syracuse shots en route to his fourth shutout on the season, which ties him for third in the AHL.

No team in the AHL has scored 10 or more goals in a shutout since Worcester defeated Providence 11-0 on Nov. 30, 2002, and Adirondack also becomes the first team to win by a double-digit margin since Dec. 8, 2002, when Hamilton beat Cleveland 15-1. The Civic Center itself has not seen 10 goals scored since the Adirondack Red Wings beat the Springfield Indians 10-4 on March 7, 1993.

Syracuse netminder Kristers Gudlevskis takes the loss, allowing four goals in 13 shots, while Allen York stopped 8-of-14 in relief. The Crunch outshot the Flames 29-27.
