Flames sign Ference

The Calgary Flames, NHL affiliate of the AHL’s Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights, announced on Thursday the signing of defenseman Brad Ference.

As per club policy, terms and conditions of the deal were not disclosed.

Ference, 27, recorded five goals and 17 assists for 22 points in 62 AHL games between Albany and San Antonio last season. The Calgary native has played a total of 172 AHL games in his seven-year pro career, totaling 10 goals, 45 assists and 566 penalty minutes.

A Calgary native, Ference has four goals and 30 assists for 34 points, along with 563 PIM, in 245 career NHL games with Phoenix and Florida.

The 10th overall pick in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, Ference represented Canada at the World Junior Championships in 1998 and 1999.
