Flames sign McCollum, assign to Heat

The Calgary Flames, parent club of the AHL’s Stockton Heat, have signed goaltender Tom McCollum and assigned him to Stockton.

A first-round pick (30th overall) by Detroit in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, McCollum spent the last seven seasons in the Red Wings organization, appearing in 226 regular-season games with the Grand Rapids Griffins. McCollum has compiled a career record of 103-91-16 in the AHL, with a 2.78 goals-against average, a .905 save percentage and seven shutouts.

McCollum made 30 appearances for the Griffins in 2015-16, going 15-13-0 and ranking third in the AHL with a .923 save percentage.

A native of Sanborn, N.Y., McCollum was 12-9 in 23 postseason games for the Griffins, and was a member of their Calder Cup championship team in 2012-13. He also appeared in three NHL games with Detroit.
