Giroux scores 50th goal in Bears’ win

Alexandre Giroux became the fifth player in Hershey Bears history to score 50 or more goals in a single season, hitting the mark in the Bears’ 3-2 shootout win at Manchester on Sunday.

Tim Tookey was the last Bears player to score 50 or more in a season before Sunday, when he scored 51 during the 1986-87 season. Giroux stepped into the elite Hershey goal-scoring fraternity early in the third period, scoring from the top of the right circle against Manchester goaltender Jonathan Bernier.

Giroux leads the AHL with his 50 goals and ranks second to teammate Keith Aucoin with 83 points in just 59 games for Hershey this season. With the first 50-goal campaign of his career, Giroux now has 248 goals and 207 assists for 455 points in 557 AHL contests.
