Golden Knights acquire Calder Cup winner Roy

The Vegas Golden Knights on Wednesday acquired forward Nicolas Roy and a conditional fifth-round draft pick from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for Erik Haula.

Roy, 22, recorded 17 goals and 19 assists for 36 points in 69 regular-season games for the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers in 2018-19. During the postseason, he added six goals, nine assists and a plus-15 rating in 19 contests as the Checkers won the Calder Cup.

Entering his third pro season in 2019-20, Roy has compiled 28 goals and 46 assists for 74 points in 141 career AHL games, all with Charlotte.

Selected in the fourth round of the 2015 NHL draft by Carolina, Roy has appeared in seven career NHL games with the Hurricanes, including six in 2018-19.
