Golden Knights acquire Sparks from Toronto

The Vegas Golden Knights have acquired goaltender Garret Sparks from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for a fourth-round selection in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft and forward David Clarkson.

Sparks, 26, spent the entire 2018-19 season in the NHL, going 8-9-1 in 20 appearances with the Maple Leafs. Sparks posted a 3.15 goals-against average and a .902 save percentage with one shutout.

In 2017-18, Sparks was voted the winner of the Aldege “Baz” Bastien Memorial Award as the AHL’s outstanding goaltender, posting a 1.79 GAA and a .936 save percentage to go with a 31-9-2 record and six shutouts in 43 games with the Toronto Marlies.

He went on backstop the Marlies to the Calder Cup championship in 2018, going 14-5 with a 2.22 GAA and a .915 save percentage in 19 postseason contests.

In 121 career appearances in the AHL, all with Toronto, Sparks owns a record of 80-28-7 with a 2.12 GAA, a .927 save percentage and 15 shutouts.

Selected by the Maple Leafs in the seventh round of the 2011 NHL Draft, the native of Elmhurst, Ill., has played 37 career games in the NHL with a record of 14-18-2, a 3.09 GAA and an .898 save percentage.
