Great Scott! Marlies get by Heat

Greg Scott scored three times in the third period — once at even strength, once shorthanded and once into an empty net — as the Toronto Marlies moved to within one win of the conference finals with a 3-1 victory over Abbotsford in Game 4 of their best-of-seven series on Tuesday night.

For Scott, a 21-goal scorer for the Marlies during the regular season, it was the first hat trick of his AHL career.

The game was scoreless until Hugh Jessiman notched his second goal of the playoffs at the 9:29 mark of the second period, giving the Heat a 1-0 lead.

That held up until Scott tied the game up at 2:31 of the third. He added a shorthanded tally 4:40 later, and iced the victory with an empty-netter in the final minute.

Ben Scrivens made 35 saves for the Marlies, who were outshot by a 36-17 count for the game. Scrivens has stopped 118 of 123 shots in the series (1.27, .959).

Danny Taylor, back in the Heat crease after Leland Irving got the start in Game 3, turned aside 14 shots on the night.

The Marlies take their 3-1 series lead into Game 5 on Wednesday night at the Abbotsford Entertainment & Sports Centre (10:00 ET, Leafs TV, AHL Live).
