Griffins creep closer with win in S.A.

Grand Rapids scored four times in the third period, holding off San Antonio and earning a 7-4 win at the SBC Center on Thursday night.

The win moved the Griffins to within one point of fourth-place Cincinnati in the West Division with six games remaining.

Kip Miller finished with three goals and two assists, tying an AHL season high with five points. Eric Manlow and Jeff Panzer had a goal and an assist each, and Matt Ellis recorded two assists.

Defensemen Derek Meech and Bryan Helmer also scored for the Griffins.

Petr Taticek scored twice for San Antonio, which had not scored more than one goal as a team in any of its previous 10 games. Anthony Stewart had two assists, his first two professional points.
