Griffins win rematch, end Leafs’ streak

On Tuesday, St. John’s ended Grand Rapids’ seven-game road winning streak.

On Wednesday, the Griffins returned the favor, putting a stop to the Maple Leafs’ eight-game home winning streak with a 5-4 victory at Mile One Stadium.

Eric Himelfarb scored the winning goal with 1:28 remaining in regulation as Grand Rapids won the back-and-forth affair.

Brad Leeb had a hat trick for the Leafs, who led 2-0 less than four minutes into the game, fell behind 3-2, then led again 4-3 midway through the third period. Leeb’s three goals came in his first game after sitting out the previous four.

Todd Robinson recorded a goal and two assists for the Griffins, giving him 11 points in 14 games with Grand Rapids this season.

Aleksander Suglobov (2g, 2a), Zach Parise (4a) and Dean McAmmond (1g, 2a) combined for 11 points including three power-play goals, but Albany fell to Providence in a shootout, 5-4… Jason LaBarbera made 28 saves for his fourth shutout of the season, leading Hartford over Springfield, 2-0… Utah’s Jean-Marc Pelletier made 44 saves for his first win of the season, a 4-3 shootout decision over Rochester.
