Guard, B-Sens shut down Falcons

Kelly Guard made 39 saves and stopped five of six Falcons players in a shootout to give the Binghamton Senators a 3-2 win over Springfield at the Broome County Arena on Sunday afternoon.

The B-Sens received their scoring from defensemen Rory Rawlyk and Jean-Francois David to jump out to a 2-0 lead in the third period.

Springfield mounted a comeback with goals from Marek Kvapil and Eric Healey to knot the game at 2-2 and force overtime.

Ryan Vesce provided both shootout goals for the Senators, who after losing three straight have now won two in a row, both by one-goal margins.

Karri Ramo made 43 saves for the Falcons, who are winless in their last seven games.


BRIDGEPORT 5, PROVIDENCE 3
Bridgeport ended its three-game road losing skid with a 5-3 win over Providence at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center on Sunday.

Petteri Nokelainen scored a pair of goals and Eric Boguniecki recorded three assists for the Sound Tigers, who prior to this afternoon’s tilt had been outscored 11-3 in their last two games.

Billy Thompson earned his sixth win of the year by stopping 43 of 46 shots in the contest.

Petr Kalus and AHL All-Star defenseman Matt Lashoff each tallied a goal and an assist for the Bruins, who have dropped two straight since going 10-0-0-1 in their previous 11 games.
