The San Diego Gulls announced that the club has signed defenseman Brian Cooper to a one-year contract for the 2017-18 AHL season.

Cooper, 23, spent his rookie pro season with San Diego in 2016-17, collecting four goals and six assists for 10 points along with a plus-5 rating in 37 games. He also appeared in all 10 of the Gulls’ Calder Cup Playoff contests, recording two assists.

A native of Anchorage, Alaska, Cooper made his pro debut with the Gulls in the spring of 2016 following his senior season at the University of Nebraska-Omaha. He was a fifth-round draft choice by the Anaheim Ducks in 2012.
