Halak wins goaltenders duel

Hamilton’s Jaroslav Halak came out on the winning end of a goaltending duel in San Antonio that ended in a 1-0 overtime victory for the Bulldogs on Tuesday night.

Halak stopped all 21 shots he faced for the first shutout of his American Hockey League career, in just his second career AHL game.

San Antonio goaltender David LeNeveu stopped 43 of 44 shots in the hard fought loss. LeNeveu’s bid for perfection was put to an end 2:09 into the overtime period when James Sanford lifted a backhand shot into the back of the net. Corey Locke and Francis Lemieux earned the assists.

The win continues the Bulldogs recent surge. The Bulldogs (27-32-0-3, 57 pts.) have now won five in a row and eight of their last ten as they attempt to climb back into the playoff chase in the North division. Currently Hamilton sits in a tie for fifth place in the division, nine points behind the Toronto Marlies for fourth.

San Antonio (17-35-2-4, 40 pts.) remain in last place in the West division.
