Heat sign Brust to one-year deal

The Abbotsford Heat announced Tuesday the signing of veteran goaltender Barry Brust to a one-year American Hockey League contract.

Brust, a native of Swan River, Man., and a former third-round draft choice of the Minnesota Wild, has played parts of six seasons in the AHL with Manchester, Houston and Binghamton, earning a record of 96-71-9 with a 2.49 goals-against average, a .919 save percentage and 16 shutouts. He spent last season playing for Straubing in Germany.

A member of the 2011 Calder Cup champion Binghamton Senators, Brust set career highs with 29 wins and seven shutouts that season. He played in the 2009 AHL All-Star Classic and earned a share of the Harry "Hap" Holmes Award for outstanding team goaltending with Houston in 2007-08.

Brust, 29, has played 11 career NHL games, all with Los Angeles during the 2006-07 season.
