The Carolina Hurricanes, parent club of the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers, have acquired forward Danny Kristo plus a second-round selection in the 2017 NHL Draft from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for defenseman Ron Hainsey.

Kristo, 26, has totaled six goals and seven assists for 13 points in 40 AHL games between Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Chicago this season.

The Edina, Minn., native was originally selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the second round, 56th overall, of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, and has earned 78 goals and 75 assists for 153 points in 267 career AHL games with Hamilton, Hartford, Chicago and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

Prior to turning professional, Kristo spent four seasons at the University of North Dakota, where he was a 2012-13 AHCA West First-Team All-American. He has represented the United States in a number of international tournaments including the 2008 U-18 World Junior Championship, the 2009 and 2010 World Junior Championships and the 2013 IIHF World Championship.
