Hurricanes sign Tennyson

The Carolina Hurricanes, parent club of the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers, have agreed to terms with defenseman Matt Tennyson on a one-year, two-way contract.

Tennyson, 26, appeared in a career-high 29 NHL games for the San Jose Sharks in 2015-16, totaling one goal and three assists for four points. He also played five games for the Sharks’ AHL affiliate, the San Jose Barracuda.

Signed by the Sharks as an undrafted free agent in 2012, Tennyson has 17 goals and 48 assists for 65 points in 169 career AHL games with San Jose and Worcester. He also has three goals and 11 assists for 14 points in 60 NHL games with San Jose.
