The St. John’s IceCaps reached a significant milestone with their 18th consecutive sellout Saturday night at Mile One Centre.
The first-year franchise has sold out each of its home games so far this season, resulting in the third-longest sellout streak in the American Hockey League in the last decade.
The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins own the longest sellout streak in American Hockey League history, a 90-game streak between March 2002 and October 2004. The Penguins also sold out 54 consecutive home games from December 2000 to February 2002.
“On behalf of all the players and management of the St. John’s IceCaps Hockey Club, I would like to thank the great fans of Newfoundland and Labrador for helping us attain this major accomplishment,” IceCaps President and CEO Danny Williams said. “Their support is the backbone of this organization and has played an integral part in the success of this brand new franchise.”
The IceCaps are the American Hockey League’s newest franchise, and have filled Mile One with 6,287 fans each night. The club has since extended that streak to 19 by selling out the January 10th game against the Toronto Marlies.
The club looks to make it 20 straight tonight, when it faces the Marlies once more at Mile One.
