IceCaps unveil jerseys

The St. John’s IceCaps of the American Hockey League proudly unveiled their home and away jerseys at a launch today overlooking St. John’s Harbour.

IceCaps President and Chief Executive Officer Danny Williams and IceCaps player Jason King, a Corner Brook native, modeled the jerseys just inside the Narrows this morning, at Fort Waldegrave on Battery Road. They were joined by IceCaps Chief Operating Officer Glenn Stanford.

The jerseys, which are modeled after the parent Winnipeg Jets uniforms, consist largely of two shades of blue. The primary navy blue base of the home dark jerseys is referred to as Polar Night Blue. The lighter, secondary blue is called Aviator Blue. Each jersey includes sleeve piping, accenting the colors.

The IceCaps will wear the white jerseys at home and the blue jerseys for road games.

“I could not be more pleased with the final product we are unveiling today which will be the signature look of the St. John’s IceCaps,” said Mr. Williams. “These are incredibly sharp looking jerseys that are sure to catch the eye throughout the league.

“As the AHL’s newest team, we wanted to ensure that we earned our place as a top notch organization. We started by becoming one of the most successful teams from a ticket sale and revenue perspective, thanks to the outstanding support of our fans and corporate community. Now we are making our mark with our IceCaps branding; and in just a few weeks our team will take to the ice and start what promises to be an exciting inaugural season. Today is just one more step on the journey to bringing professional hockey back to a province that loves it so much.”

In addition to the IceCaps logo on the front of the jersey, the Winnipeg Jets logo will be prominently featured on each shoulder. The game worn jerseys will also bear the corporate mark of Mary Brown’s, a strong Canadian company with strong Newfoundland roots that wants to support the team in its quest for the Calder Cup, the AHL championship trophy.

“The glacier-white jerseys will be what our fans will see the team wear at Mile One Centre on opening night and throughout the season,” Mr. Stanford said. “With the combination of dark and light blue, along with the grey piping, we expect the jerseys to be very well received.”

Authentic replica jerseys will be available for purchase exclusively through the St. John’s IceCaps Facebook page, which can be accessed at www.facebook.com/stjohnsicecaps.
