IceHogs fans encouraged to wear red

NIU_Black_Ribbon.gifThe Rockford IceHogs are asking fans to wear red to their two home games this weekend as a tribute to the students, faculty and staff at Northern Illinois University.

The NIU campus is located about 40 miles south of Rockford in DeKalb, Ill.

“The IceHogs family would like to extend our thoughts and prayers to the victims, families, student body and faculty at Northern Illinois University,” said IceHogs president Ryan Washatka. “A tragedy of this magnitude is hard to comprehend, and our condolences are with the university.”

The IceHogs will be wearing their own road red jerseys for their home games Friday vs. Quad City and Saturday vs. Chicago. Black and red ribbons will also be available for fans courtesy of the Rockford IceHogs Booster Club at the Booster Club table located in the MetroCentre concourse. IceHogs coaches and staff will wear the ribbons as well.

Fans will have an opportunity to sign a 5-foot-by-16-foot banner that will be located in the upper concourse during Saturday’s game against the Wolves.

Additionally, NIU students will be granted free admission, with a valid student ID, to Rockford’s games on Sunday, Feb. 24 and Wednesday, Feb. 27.
