Islanders ink Berry

The New York Islanders, parent club of the AHL’s Bridgeport Sound Tigers, have signed defenseman Rick Berry to a one-year contract.

The 27-year old Berry, who was a member of Milwaukee’s Western Conference championship club in 2005-06, has played 197 NHL games over parts of four seasons with Colorado, Pittsburgh and Washington.

A native of Birtle, Man., Berry has recorded 22 goals, 57 assists and 608 penalty minutes in 298 career AHL games. Last season, the 6-foot-2, 215-pound blueliner totaled one goal, 11 assists in 125 PIM in 69 games between Milwaukee and San Antonio.

Berry was originally a third-round draft choice by Colorado in 1997.
