The New York Islanders announced today that goaltender Kevin Poulin has been recalled from the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League. The club also announced that goaltender Rick DiPietro has cleared waivers and has been assigned to Bridgeport.
Poulin, 22, has appeared in 16 career games with the Islanders, posting a 6-6-1 record with a 2.67 goals-against average and a .918 save percentage.
The Montreal, Que., native has made 32 appearances with Bridgeport this season, going 15-14-3 with a 3.22 GAA, a .904 save percentage and one shutout. In 96 career AHL games, all with the Sound Tigers, Poulin has a 51-37-7 record with six shutouts.
The Islanders selected Poulin in the fifth round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
DiPietro, 31, is 0-3-0 in three games with the Islanders in 2012-13. The 12th-year pro owns a record of 130-136-36 with 16 shutouts in 318 career NHL games, all with New York, since being selected by the Islanders as the first overall pick in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.
Twice a 30-game winner in the NHL (2005-06, 2006-07), DiPietro was an AHL All-Star in 2001-02 and led the Sound Tigers to the Calder Cup Finals that season, going 30-22-7 in 59 regular-season appearances and 12-8 in 20 playoff contests. DiPietro has played 99 career AHL games, all with Bridgeport, compiling a record of 47-36-15 with seven shutouts.
