Kings ink Calder Cup champ Gravel

The Los Angeles Kings, parent club of the AHL’s Ontario Reign, have signed defenseman Kevin Gravel to a two-year contract.

The 23-year-old Gravel is a 6-foot-4, 204-pound native of Kingsford, Mich., who appeared in 58 regular-season games last year in his first full professional season with Manchester (AHL). He posted six goals and nine assists for 15 points, a plus-15 rating and 23 penalty minutes. He also appeared in all 19 postseason games for the Calder Cup champion Monarchs, registering five assists and a plus-2 rating.

A fifth-round (148th overall) selection of the Kings at the 2010 NHL Draft, Gravel played four years at St. Cloud State University, appearing in 153 games and totaling 49 points (13 goals, 36 assists). Gravel made his professional debut with Manchester at the end of the 2013-14 season, appearing in five games.
