Kolarik helps Rampage hold off Monsters, 5-4

SAN ANTONIO 5, LAKE ERIE 4

San Antonio emerged with a 5-4 road win over Lake Erie on Thursday in a back-and-forth game at Quicken Loans Arena. Rampage rookie forward Chad Kolarik snapped a nine-game goal-scoring drought with a pair of tallies on the night, including the eventual game-winner at 7:21 of the third period.

Prior to Thursday, Kolarik had not registered a multiple-goal performance since netting a hat trick in Game 2 of San Antonio’s first-round playoff series at Toronto on Apr. 18, 2008.

The Rampage grabbed leads of 1-0, 2-1, and 3-2 on the strength of goals from David Spina, Simon Ferguson, and Joel Perrault. Kolarik made it a 4-2 game with his first of the night late in the second frame.

Chris Durno, Nigel Williams, Mike McLean, and Ray Macias all scored for the Monsters, who battled back from a pair of one-goal deficits but couldn’t overcome San Antonio’s three-goal second period showing. Lake Erie fell to 1-3-2-0 in its last six contests.

San Antonio rookies Kevin Porter and Brett MacLean each chipped in two assists on the night, and goaltender Karl Goehring made 23 saves to earn his first win in a Rampage uniform this season.

The Rampage moved to 2-1-0-0 on their North Division road trip, which concludes on Friday in Syracuse.
