Leighton signs with Ducks

The Anaheim Ducks, parent club of the AHL’s Portland Pirates, announced today that they have signed goaltender Michael Leighton to a one-year contract.

Per club policy, no financial terms of the deal were disclosed.

Leighton, 25, played 40 games with the AHL’s Rochester Americans in 2005-06, posting a record of 15-22-1 with a 3.21 goals-against average and an .887 save percentage.

A native of Petrolia, Ont., Leighton is 90-74-18 with 20 shutouts in 187 career AHL games with Rochester and Norfolk. He earned a spot on the AHL’s All-Rookie Team and played in the AHL All-Star Game in 2002.

Originally drafted by Chicago in 1999, Leighton has a mark of 8-21-10 in 43 career NHL contests with the Blackhawks.
