Lightning bring back Witkowski

The Tampa Bay Lightning have signed free agent defenseman Luke Witkowski to a two-year, two-way contract.

Witkowski, 29, spent the last two seasons with the Detroit Red Wings, collecting two assists in 34 games in 2018-19.

The native of Holland, Mich., was a 2008 draft choice of the Lightning and spent four seasons in the organization, recording seven goals and 32 assists with 524 penalty minutes in 218 AHL games with the Syracuse Crunch. He served as Syracuse’s captain in 2016-17.

Witkowski has skated in 119 NHL games with Detroit and Tampa Bay, tallying one goal and nine assists.
