Lindgren joins Capitals on three-year deal

The Washington Capitals have signed goaltender Charlie Lindgren to a three-year contract.

Lindgren helped the AHL’s Springfield Thunderbirds to the Calder Cup Finals in 2021-22, posting a record of 24-7-1 in 34 appearances while ranking third in the league with a 2.21 goals-against average and second with a .925 save percentage. He was 5-3 with a 2.79 GAA and a .914 save percentage in eight postseason starts.

Lindgren also appeared in five NHL games with the St. Louis Blues, going 5-0-0 with a 1.22 GAA and a .958 save percentage.

In 171 AHL games over six seasons with Springfield, Laval and St. John’s, Lindgren has a record of 76-65-24 with a 2.75 GAA, a .903 save percentage and 11 shutouts. He appeared in the AHL All-Star Classic as a rookie in 2017.

The native of Lakeville, Minn., has a record of 15-12-2 (2.74, .913) and two shutouts in 29 NHL appearances with St. Louis and Montreal.
