MacKenzie, Wolves get shorty in OT

Derek MacKenzie‘s shorthanded goal 58 seconds into overtime gave Chicago a 4-3 win over Grand Rapids in Game 1 of their West Division semifinal series on Friday night.

MacKenzie’s winner came after Brian Swanson tied the game with 11 seconds to go in regulation.

Kevin Miller scored all three goals for the Griffins, but the Wolves managed to erase two separate one-goal deficits in the final period.

Chicago, which owned a 42-24 edge in shots on goal for the game, got a goal and an assist apiece from Swanson, Shawn Heins and Eric Healey. Kari Lehtonen stopped 21 shots for his first playoff win; Marc Lamothe, who has guided his teams to Game 7 of the conference finals each of the last two seasons, made 38 saves in the loss.
