Manitoba Moose returning to Winnipeg

True North Sports & Entertainment Limited today announced its American Hockey League franchise will be called the Manitoba Moose, and unveiled the team’s primary, secondary and wordmark logos, as well as the home and away jerseys for the 2015-16 season.

In March, True North had announced its plans to relocate the AHL affiliate of the Winnipeg Jets Hockey Club from St. John’s, N.L., to Winnipeg, Man., for the beginning of the 2015-16 hockey season. The Moose will play their home games at MTS Centre.

The team’s new logos feature some modifications, but are based on those used by the Manitoba Moose franchise that previously played in Winnipeg for 15 years between 1996 and 2011 in both the IHL and AHL. The improvements were made by the original designer David Mann. As the official affiliate of the Winnipeg Jets, the Moose have adopted the colors of the Winnipeg Jets and will wear the Winnipeg Jets home and away jersey templates. Per AHL rules, the Moose will wear their white jerseys at home and dark (navy) jerseys on the road.

The American Hockey League remains the top developmental hockey league in the world, with more than 88 percent of current National Hockey League players having developed their skills in the AHL. The Manitoba Moose/St. John’s IceCaps franchise has an extensive history of developing players through their AHL team. The list of former Moose and IceCaps who now play in the National Hockey League includes players such as Michael Hutchinson, Adam Lowry, Alexandre Burrows, Alexander Edler, Cory Schneider, Eddie Lack and Kevin Bieksa, to name a few.

True North also announced the commencement of the Manitoba Moose Season Seat campaign. The campaign will consist of a pre-sale as well as a general public on-sale. The pre-sale will begin Monday, May 4th at noon CT and run until Thursday, May 7th at 10:00 p.m. CT. “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to bring the American Hockey League back to Winnipeg,” said Mark Chipman, Chairman of the Board for True North Sports & Entertainment. “Given the support that our fans have demonstrated for the American Hockey League and Manitoba Moose in the past, coupled with the interest our fans have in our Winnipeg Jets prospects, we have no doubt there will be a strong interest in our season seat campaign. It is with great anticipation that we look forward to showcasing the future Winnipeg Jets in an AHL environment, right here in Winnipeg.”
