Maple Leafs acquire Hutchinson

The Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired goaltender Michael Hutchinson from the Florida Panthers in exchange for Toronto’s fifth-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft.

Hutchinson will report to the Toronto Marlies (AHL).

Hutchinson, 28, has appeared in eight games for the AHL’s Springfield Thunderbirds this season, showing a record of 2-3-2 with a 3.33 goals-against average and a .906 save percentage. He is also 1-1-2 (4.18, .839) in four NHL appearances with Florida.

Hutchinson was a Second Team AHL All-Star in 2017-18, going 17-5-4 in 26 appearances with the Manitoba Moose and ranking third in the league with a 2.08 GAA and second with a .935 save percentage. He also appeared in the 2018 AHL All-Star Classic.

A native of Barrie, Ont., Hutchinson has a record of 75-50-12 with a 2.47 GAA, a .920 save percentage and 12 shutouts in 145 AHL games with Springfield, Manitoba, St. John’s and Providence. He is also 44-40-13 (2.70, .907) with three shutouts in 106 career NHL appearances.
