Marlies’ Arcobello named week’s best

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … The American Hockey League announced today that Toronto Marlies center Mark Arcobello has been selected as the CCM/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Jan. 24, 2016.

Arcobello tallied four goals and three assists for seven points along with a plus-6 rating in three games for the league-leading Marlies last week.

On Wednesday evening, Arcobello followed an early assist with a pair of third-period goals – including the equalizer with 1:27 left in regulation – as Toronto rallied for a 5-4 overtime win over Syracuse. On Saturday night, he notched a goal and an assist to lead the Marlies over Utica, 4-2. And in Sunday’s rematch with the Comets, Arcobello scored again and assisted on what would be the game-winning score in a 7-1 Toronto victory.

Arcobello ranks fifth in the AHL in scoring with 37 points (16 goals, 21 assists) in 30 games with the Marlies this season, while also skating in 11 matches with the parent Toronto Maple Leafs. The sixth-year pro from Milford, Conn., recorded 17 goals and 31 points while playing 77 games in the NHL in 2014-15, and has 49 points in 130 career NHL outings with Edmonton, Nashville, Pittsburgh, Arizona and Toronto. Arcobello has appeared in 218 career regular-season games in the AHL, totaling 76 goals and 122 assists for 198 points, and also has 35 points in 37 career Calder Cup Playoff contests. He signed as a free agent with the Maple Leafs on July 1, 2015.

In recognition of his achievement, Arcobello will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Marlies home game.
