Marlies convincing in Game 1 victory

The Toronto Marlies opened their Calder Cup title defense with a 4-1 road win over Rochester on Friday night.

The Amerks host Game 2 on Sunday afternoon.

Coming off a 33-goal regular season, Chris Mueller scored twice for the Marlies as part of a three-point night. Nic Baptiste and Adam Brooks also scored, and Rasmus Sandin registered three assists.

Kasimir Kaskisuo turned aside 29 shots to earn the win, allowing only a Tage Thompson goal with 1:08 left in regulation.
