Marlies first to secure 2018 postseason berth

The Toronto Marlies became the first team to clinch a berth in the 2018 Calder Cup Playoffs on Saturday night, their seventh consecutive trip to the postseason.

The Marlies punched their ticket with a 4-3 win over Providence at Ricoh Coliseum, followed by Laval’s 5-3 loss to Belleville a few hours later.

Since missing the playoffs in 2010 and 2011, Toronto has registered seven straight 40-win seasons and is bidding for its fifth North Division title. The Marlies reached the Calder Cup Finals in 2012 and were conference finalists in 2014 and 2016.
