Marlies’ Foster named Player of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … The American Hockey League announced today that Toronto Marlies center Alex Foster has been named the Reebok/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Nov. 22, 2009. Foster scored five goals and added one assist for six points in three games.

After missing more than a month due to injury, Foster returned to the Marlies lineup on Friday night and scored a pair of goals to help Toronto defeat Lake Erie, 7-1, in Cleveland. He scored two more goals in Saturday’s 6-3 loss to Grand Rapids, and had a goal and an assist in the third period on Sunday as the Marlies rallied for a 3-2 shootout win over Lake Erie at Ricoh Coliseum.

In recognition of his achievement, Foster will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Marlies home game.

A fourth-year pro out of Bowling Green State University, Foster has six goals and two assists for eight points in eight games for Toronto in 2009-10. In 220 career AHL games, all with the Marlies, Foster has registered 45 goals and 62 assists for 107 points, and he is Toronto’s franchise leader in games played. In 2007-08, he set career highs for goals (18), assists (28) and points (46) and helped the Marlies to the Western Conference finals, and also appeared in three NHL games with the parent Toronto Maple Leafs. A native of Canton, Mich., Foster originally signed as a free agent with the Leafs on Mar. 8, 2006.
