Marlies sign pair of defensemen to contracts for 2009-10 season

The Toronto Marlies announced today that the club has signed defensemen Todd Perry and Eric Werner to American Hockey League contracts.

Perry, 22, played in 70 games as a rookie with the Toronto Marlies during the 2008-09 season collecting seven points (two goals, five assists) and 81 penalty minutes. The 6’3, 215-pound defenseman scored his first career AHL goal on December 26 against the Lake Erie Monsters.

The Ingleside, Ont., native skated in all six of the Marlies playoff games against the Manitoba Moose and recorded two assists and six penalty minutes. The Marlies named Perry the 2008-09 Rookie of the Year prior to their final game of the season last year.

Werner, 26, played in 15 games last season with the Manchester Monarchs, collecting three points (one goal, two assists) and 10 penalty minutes. The 5’10, 185-pound defenseman also suited up for the Augsburg Panthers (DEL) in 2008-09, appearing in 15 games and tallying four assists with 37 penalty minutes.
