The Carolina Hurricanes, parent club of the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers, today announced that the team has recalled forward Jon Matsumoto from the Checkers and assigned forwards Drayson Bowman and Zac Dalpe to Charlotte.

Matsumoto, 24, has totaled three goals and six assists (9 points) in 10 games for Charlotte this season, leading the team in assists and sharing the team lead in points. The Ottawa, Ont., native was acquired by the Hurricanes from the Philadelphia Flyers on June 26, in exchange for Carolina’s seventh-round pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft (Richard Blidstrand).

Philadelphia’s third-round pick in the 2006 Entry Draft, Matsumoto has tallied 84 goals and 98 assists (182 points) in 261 career AHL games with Philadelphia, Adirondack and Charlotte. He has yet to make his NHL debut.

Bowman, scoreless in eight games with the Hurricanes this season, played 56 AHL games with Albany as a rookie in 2009-10, totaling 17 goals and 15 assists. He was the Hurricanes’ third-round draft choice in 2007.

Dalpe made his pro debut with Albany at the end of last season and recorded six goals and one assist in nine regular-season games, along with three goals and three assists in eight playoff matches. The second-round draft pick (2008) had one assist in seven games for Carolina this season.
