McDonald returning to Sound Tigers

The Bridgeport Sound Tigers have agreed to terms with forward Colin McDonald on an American Hockey League contract.

A three-time AHL All-Star, McDonald recorded 13 goals and 15 assists for 28 points in 69 games with the AHL’s Lehigh Valley Phantoms last season. McDonald served as captain of the Phantoms for four years (2015-19), and was selected to captain the Eastern Conference at the 2019 AHL All-Star Classic.

McDonald, 34, spent three seasons in the New York Islanders organization from 2012-15, including 75 games with the Sound Tigers. The native of Wethersfield, Conn., has played 697 regular-season games in the AHL with Lehigh Valley, Bridgeport, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Oklahoma City and Springfield, totaling 170 goals and 196 assists for 366 points. McDonald won the AHL’s Willie Marshall Award in 2010-11 after leading the league with 42 goals.

Originally a second-round pick by Edmonton in the 2003 NHL Draft, McDonald has skated in 148 NHL games with Edmonton, Pittsburgh, the Islanders and Philadelphia, totaling 20 goals and 26 assists.
