Minnesota inks Bickel, Sutter

The Minnesota Wild, parent club of the AHL’s Iowa Wild, have signed defenseman Stu Bickel to a one-year, two-way contract and forward Brett Sutter to a two-year, two-way contract.

Bickel, 27, collected one goal and seven assists along with 85 penalty minutes in 24 games with the Harford Wolf Pack in the American Hockey League in 2013-14.

The 6-foot-4, 207-pound native of Chanhassen, Minn., has played 178 career AHL games with Hartford/Connecticut, Syracuse, San Antonio and the Iowa Chops, totaling six goals and 24 assists. Bickel also has nine assists in 67 career NHL contests with the New York Rangers.

Sutter, 27, collected 15 goals and 29 assists for 44 points in 62 AHL games with the Charlotte Checkers in 2013-14, and also tallied one goal and one assist in 17 NHL games with the Carolina Hurricanes. He ranked fourth on the Checkers in scoring and served as captain of the team the last three seasons.

The 6-foot, 200-pound native of Viking, Alta., has played 467 career games in the AHL with Charlotte, Abbotsford and Quad City, registering 79 goals and 122 assists for 201 points. Sutter also has collected seven points (2g, 5a) in 54 career NHL games with Calgary and Carolina.

He was originally selected by Calgary in the sixth round (179th overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
