Moose come back to double up Pens

Jason King and Jimmy Roy each tallied two goals and an assist as Manitoba came from behind to defeat Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, 6-3, as the AHL’s 69th regular season opened on Wednesday night.

The Penguins got two unassisted goals by Ramzi Abid to take a 3-2 lead early in the second period, chasing Moose starting goaltender Alex Auld who stopped just one of the four shots he faced.

King, the NHL’s Rookie of the Month while playing for Vancouver last November, tied the score midway through the second, and Roy scored at 18:21 of the middle frame and 14:03 of the third to give Manitoba its first lead.

Four months after backstopping Milwaukee to a four-game sweep of the Penguins in the Calder Cup 2004 Final, Wade Flaherty returned to the Wachovia Arena in a Moose uniform and stopped all 15 shots he faced in relief to earn the win.

Andy Chiodo allowed six goals on 25 shots for Wilkes-Barre.
