Moose hold on to edge Monsters, sweep two-game set

MANITOBA 3, LAKE ERIE 2

Manitoba took a 3-0 lead by the midway point of the third period and had to hold on for a 3-2 win over Lake Erie on Tuesday before 6,130 fans at the MTS Centre. Alexandre Bolduc posted a goal and an assist for the Moose, who earned a sweep of their two-game set with the Monsters.

Bolduc kicked off the game’s scoring at 10:24 of the opening period, with Josh Soares earning the lone assist.

After a scoreless second period, defenseman Dylan Yeo’s first career AHL goal made it 2-0 in favor of the Moose at 2:54 of the third. The power play goal was assisted by Bolduc and Shaun Heshka, who finished with two helpers in the contest.

Nolan Baumgartner then extended the lead to 3-0 with another power play tally at 6:15, a goal that would prove to be the game-winner.

That’s because the Monsters made a late comeback attempt, receiving goals within 45 seconds of each other from Josh Aspenlind (13:50) and Nigel Williams (14:35). Aspenlind’s goal was his first in the AHL.

Manitoba goaltender Cory Schneider held on for his 18th win of the season (18-3-0), making 19 saves on the night.

The Moose now embark on a 10-game road swing, including six straight in New England beginning Friday at Providence.
