Moose, IceHogs tangle in Winnipeg tonight

The Manitoba Moose are pleased to welcome personnel of the HMCS Winnipeg to their game versus the Rockford IceHogs on Thursday, October 25th at the MTS Centre to act as the official color party during the Canadian national anthem.

As part of this special tribute, the Moose will be honoring the local firefighters from the Winnipeg Fire & Paramedic Service who were injured while battling a fire in St. Boniface in which two of their colleagues – Tom Nichols and Harold Lassard – lost their lives on February 4, 2007. The Moose are honored to have the four injured firefighters – Ed Wiebe, Lionel Crowther, Darcy Funk, and Scott Atchison – drop the puck at center ice as part of a ceremonial face-off prior to the game.

As part of this special evening, 18 sailors from the HMCS Winnipeg, along with local firefighters from throughout the province will “pass the boot” at the MTS Centre for fans to make a donation with all proceeds going to the Firefighters Burn Fund during the second period of action.

The HMCS Winnipeg is in the city as part of an annual visit to the province to promote the Navy, their namesake, and their primary charity which is the Firefighters Burn Fund.
