Mougenel joins Sharks staff

The Worcester Sharks, proud American Hockey League affiliate of the San Jose Sharks, announced today that Ryan Mougenel has been named assistant coach of the hockey club beginning with the 2014-15 season.

Mougenel, 38, comes to Worcester to join head coach Roy Sommer after spending last season as the assistant coach of the Hershey Bears. Before Hershey, he had a four-year stint as head coach of the ECHL’s Las Vegas Wranglers and posted a 151-111-10-16 record which included appearances in the Kelly Cup playoffs during all four seasons from 2009 to 2013 and the 2012 Western Conference championship.

The native of Scarborough, Ont., previously served as assistant coach for four seasons with the ECHL’s Fresno Falcons and Stockton Thunder.

Mougenel’s six-year pro playing career was spent mostly in the ECHL. He played 20 games in the AHL with Rochester during the 1999-2000 season.
