Murray, Armstrong sign with Calgary

murray-g08a_200.jpgThe Calgary Flames, parent club of the AHL’s Abbotsford Heat, on Tuesday announced the signings of center Garth Murray and forward Riley Armstrong.

Murray, a native of Regina, Sask., played 64 games in the AHL with San Antonio last season, registering 11 goals, 10 assists and 146 penalty minutes.

In 276 career AHL contests with San Antonio, Hamilton and Hartford, Murray has totaled 37 goals, 41 assists and 654 PIM.

Originally drafted by the Rangers in the third round (79th overall) in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Murray has skated in 116 NHL games with New York, Montreal, Florida and Phoenix, including 10 last season with the Coyotes.

He has eight goals, two assists and 131 penalty minutes for his NHL career.

armstrongArmstrong, a native of Saskatoon, Sask., has spent the past five seasons in the American Hockey League with the San Jose Sharks’ affiliates in Cleveland and Worcester.

Last season, Armstrong set career highs with 25 goals and 42 points for Worcester and also made his NHL debut with San Jose, appearing in two games.

For his AHL career, Armstrong has recorded 71 goals and 69 assists for 140 points, along with 484 penalty minutes, in 342 games.

Undrafted, Armstrong originally signed with San Jose on Sept. 15, 2004.
