The Houston Aeros have signed veteran defenseman Todd Reirden to a contract, general manager Tom Lynn announced Wednesday.
Reirden, who has played in 183 NHL games with four teams, will hit the ice with his new teammates Monday at the Sugar Land Aerodrome as the Aeros open up 2004 Training Camp.
Reirden, 33, has tallied 46 points (11 goals, 35 assists) and 181 penalty minutes over 183 NHL games with Edmonton, St. Louis, Atlanta and Phoenix. He spent most of the 2003-04 season in the AHL, combining for 24 points (9g, 15a) and 84 penalty minutes in 73 games between Cincinnati and Springfield. He also posted two assists in seven games with the Phoenix Coyotes.
“Todd is an accomplished NHL and AHL veteran who represents a great addition to our defensive corps and the character of our team,” Lynn said.
The 6-foot-5, 215-pound native of Deerfield, Ill., has picked up 27 goals and 60 assists for 87 points in 198 career AHL games with Springfield, Cincinnati, Worcester, Hamilton and Albany. He enters his 11th professional season in 2004-05.
