AHL camps open Sept. 28

It’s business as usual in the American Hockey League.

The 2012-13 AHL regular season is less than four weeks away. Sept. 28 is the first day AHL teams may begin training camps, and the puck drops for opening night of the AHL’s 77th season on Oct. 12.

In operation since 1936, the AHL serves as the top development league for the players, coaches, managers, executives and broadcasters of all 30 National Hockey League teams. More than 88 percent of today’s NHL players are American Hockey League graduates, and for the 11th year in a row, more than 6 million fans attended AHL games across North America in 2011-12. Through the years, the AHL has been home to more than 100 future members of the Hockey Hall of Fame.
